About meI’m Shae Gallagher. I am a freshman at BHS. I took help desk because I wanted to learn more about technology and get a basic idea of how to fix technology for myself. I also joined help desk to understand technology better because almost our whole world has to do with technology. I’m interested in sports and watching them too, and traveling. I would like a job in marine biology or zoology. I’m hoping that being in help desk will make it so I can help more people.

Reflection 1: In the first few weeks of help desk we have done coding, and flying drones. We coded programs for drones to follow, we coded music, and we coded games. We also flew drones with hand motions and took pictures and videos. It was interesting to see drones change to the code. We coded music with the sonic pi. That was cool to see how changing even the little things about a code can change it completely. https://sonic-pi.net/tutorial.html, https://sonic-pi.net/ those are some links to tutorials and how it all works.
Reflection 2: In the passed few weeks of help desk, I started a digital audio project. I followed directions to use the program Mixcraft. The website is called Talentbox. I learned how to mix tracks, change pitch and rhythm, and I learned how to overlap the sounds and break them up. We also wired lights with arguinos and bread boards. It was interesting to see how everything has to be very specific or nothing may happen or something completely unexpected. We also used circuit playground. We coded a siren, and a clap light.
Reflection 3: These passed few weeks of help desk we have done many new things. We leaned about chat bots and how to program them. We used ASW Educate https://www.awseducate.com/signin/SiteLogin to try out chat bots and make our own. We also had stem week. I helped people with open processing. They had to download an app one their Ipad and change some code. Other thins people did during stem week were VR, tinkerCAD https://www.tinkercad.com/, and sweet home http://www.sweethome3d.com/blog/2016/01/01/how_to_add_a_scenery_around_your_home.html.
Reflection 4: In the passed few weeks we prepared for CS Ed week. I prepared for the sonic pi and drop mix section. we review what sonic pi is and how to use it. https://sonic-pi.net is a link to the website where it explains how it works and the steps on how to use it. We also prepared dropmix. Dropmix is a bored that had cards that you place on pannels. it mixes music that is programmed to the cards. We recently also have been working on semester projects. For mine, I'm recording guitar and mixing it into GarageBand. In the end I'm hoping this is going to result in a song. Changing pitches and overlaps and cuts are how I'm planning on mixing. I have a very strong connection to music and finding different ways to practice it and get experienced.
Reflection 5: In the first few weeks of semester two, we have used the program co-spaces, (https://images.app.goo.gl/rA7U9sSxxfUfYspg9) and used drones. In cospaces you can look in the gallery and they're different scenes that other people have made. I started creating a cospace of a formal room with people having conversations. You can code people, animals, and objects with coding blocks. After that we flew drones. We went over drone safety and regulations. We saw the different types of drones and different way to fly them. We learned how to code drones and how to free fly them. We used Tynker (https://www.tynker.com/parents/) and Tello to fly the drones. here's an additional link to the BHS help desk website that talks more about drones(https://bhshelpdesk.com/2018/02/25/masscue-grant-soaring-with-drones-in-education/).

Reflection 6: Once I heard school got canceled for two weeks I was pretty excited I'm not going to lie. I thought it was just going to be like a two week vacation. It was going pretty good but I got very bored very fast. I wasn't able to do much but i was still happy to not be in school. Then school got canceled for another whole week and I was as excited as last time. Because I was getting bored I was less happy. The school got canceled till May 4th and I was a little bit upset. Being out of school wasn't my issue with it all because that part I'm still happy about but once i heard we won't be going back till may i realized we were going to have to distant learning. I am a very bad procrastinator and I am going to really have to push myself not to wait till the last minute to do my assignments. During all this free time technology has been taking up most of it whether it's social media, game, Netflix, or school work. It is a lot of time looking at a screen. It gives me something to do but it also isn't the best thing for me. Having so much free time makes it even harder to put down electronics more than it already was. I try to take time to do other things like practice piano, guitar, and ukulele. Sometimes I’ll do things like paint or draw. Whenever I spend too much time on my phone it makes me feel unaccomplished for the day so once I start to feel that way I try to get outside, like taking a walk or practicing soccer in my backyard. So in some ways technology has helped me a lot. It keeps me connected with friends. I get to take piano lessons over video chat and it gives me things to do when I'm bored. The bad side is not knowing when enough is enough and when I need to take a break. Overall this experience is teaching me some good important lessons.
